Thanks for posting, Michael. This is crucial, especially since we're in relative proximity to this one. It's a real shame that they're making it even harder on musicians to make a living in this economy. Maybe we need more donors? Either way, something has to change.
It upsets me that they want to cut the arts, even at the professional level. Here's a small idea... Why don't they cut some of the pay or players of professional sports teams? I mean, they make millions of dollars for a single season. Don't get me wrong, they are talented, but is that talent worth millions of dollars? No. It isn't right.
Hearing about this is rather sickening. Being a professional musician is just as much a profession as anything else. And their livelihoods are getting brutalized by ignorant decisions. I think this can be used as motivation to fight for what we believe is right. We as students have the power to speak, despite what people will say - and I think this is a great time for us to use our first amendment rights.
